The Central Theme of the 6th Conference at Kyoto
"Tradición y modernidad en América Latina: perspectivas y reconsideraciones"

"Tradição e modernidade na América Latina: perspectivas e reconsiderações"

"Rethinking the Tradition and Modernity in Latin America"

The central theme is established based on the following points :
(1) Participants are invited to reflect on and deepen new and historical perspectives, based on the various debates and studies that have emerged in the last century and the current one.
(2) Recently, works that discuss the current situation in Latin America at the turn of the century and after the neoliberal era have begun to emerge. As Japan is also facing many challenges after the painful experience of the earthquake and tsunami of 2011, the main expectation is to carry out debates on the contemporary situations of Latin America and the Caribbean, and their relations with Asia and Oceania.
(3) Kyoto is one of the most traditional cities in Japan, and at the same time, it is a center of culture and modern science; an icon of the continuing transformation in search of renewed and sophisticated thinking. The Kyoto conference will inspire participants to discover new perspectives.
